Noteworthy School Projects
First
Amendment School in Richardson, TX: IANT Quranic Academy
"While civics lessons teach about
democracy, in schools themselves, orders come from above",
said Matthew Moes, principal of the Quranic Academy, an Islamic
school in
Richardson. "It's really too bad. It's a really big irony,,,,,"The
First Amendment is at the heart of what makes the Muslim community
live and flourish peacefully," he said. "It's
exciting for us to ... show how a Muslim school can embody
those democratic principles." Read

Preschool
Teacher Creates Class Web Site: Islamic Foundation School,
Villa Park, IL
A great class web site was created by one of
the Islamic Foundation School's preschool teachers. This is
a great way to communicate with parents and keep them in touch
with their child's activities, schedule, homework and other
newsworthy events. Among other information it includes an
interactive program called Slate Canvas (www.slatetechnology.com)
that allows students to interact with the web site. Visit
the Classroom Web site at

Discover
Islam Project, Al Fatih Academy, Herndon, VA
(Please allow a few moments
for the Power Point program to open in your browser.)
Al
Fatih Academy coordinated and presented a display about Islam
that was displayed at the Anne Arundel Community College in
Maryland for a week after September 11, 2001. In addition
to the items displayed and the Discover Islam Poster series,
the administrators of Al Fatih Academy conducted workshops
for groups of middle school students who visited the display.
Their visit was part of the public school system's appreciation
of diversity effort. (Click here to view pictures of the Al
Fatih display at Anne Arundel Community College.)
The objective of the display was to showcase the various elements
of Muslim identity - both in the practices and cultural expressions.
The display was recognized by the College Diversity committee
and since then, other community colleges and educational institutions
have requested that the display be brought to their sites.
We are currently applying for a grant so we may purchase needed
items as well as use this effort as a fundraiser for our school.
