League Accomplishments

CONNECTS

  • Operates the only existing electronic listserv discussion forum for Muslim educators (the IECN), now in its eighth year.
  • The IECN networks nationwide approximately 450 principals, teachers, school board members, and parent and community education activists.
  • Maintains/develops an interactive, service-oriented web site for Muslim educators www.4islamicschools.org.
  • Holds the only updated and verified list of PreK-12th grade Islamic schools in North America, available free on League's website.
  • Collaborates, networks, and assists with a number of non-profit organizations that bring Muslim educators to the US to visit, observe, and interact directly with American schools and educators.
  • Liaisons Islamic schools with the US Dept of Education regarding data collection on private schools.

SERVES
  • Holds annual Leadership Conference for principals, boards, and other leadership of full time Islamic schools and does so in collaboration with universities in different regions of the US to more fully connect Muslim educators with America's prestigious and professional teacher-training institutions.
  • Facilitates the matching of job openings in Islamic schools with qualified candidates.
  • Advises schools on governance issues, policies and procedures, personnel concerns, curriculum, etc.
  • Advocates on behalf on Islamic schools in response to media challenges.
  • Publicizes school and student achievements on the web site.

INFORMS
  • Sends out periodic emails with grant information for professional development, teacher training, etc.
  • Initiated a program to help Islamic schools learn the facts about staff health care and fringe benefit products and appropriate implementation of such products into their benefits program.
  • Provides guidance to Islamic schools on requirements and application process to receive important Federal and State educational services & grant opportunities worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

LEADS
  • Advances the academic underpinnings of Islamic education by participating with institutions such as Georgetown University, Brookings Institute, and others, in establishing and disseminating solid, factual research on full time Islamic schools.
  • Publishes an educational journal Islamic Schools League Quarterly with both scholarly and practical content aimed at the needs of professional educators in Islamic schools.
  • Conducts and publishes research on and future trends in Islamic Education in North America.
  • Establishing an online literature review forum comprised of Islamic K-12 educators that will provide useful information regarding a wide range of readings, from the classics to the recently published.
  • Working in collaboration with Cordoba University (www.cordobauniversity.org) in Ashburn, VA to establish standards and provide training in Islamic studies for K-12 educators.
  • Facilitates understanding of a new Islamic education paradigm - tarbiyah.
