ROCKFORD IQRA SCHOOL, Rockford, IL student, Zahed Haseeb won the Boone-Winnebago Regional Spelling Bee this March 2006 by beating a field of about 60 of the best spellers from schools across the region. He also earned himself a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. this coming May 2006.

AL-AMAL SCHOOL, Fridley, MN put up an electrifying performance at the Lego League state championship held on 1/28/06. Three Al-Amal teams made it to the state championship this year. The three teams were Electric Eels, USA (Underwater States of Atlantis) and Samurais of the Deep Sea. The Electric Eels got the highest performance score of the tournament for Division 1, got 2nd rank in head- to-head competition and were nominated for Robust Design Award. Team USA won the Judge's Award, was nominated for the Director's Award and Team Award. The Samurais of the Deep Sea lived to fight another day. For more information, please click here!

NEW HORIZON SCHOOL, Pasadena, CA was selected as a Department of Education Blue Ribbon School for 2005. This is a major achievement for New Horizons and a verification of the dedication of the school's adminstration, faculty, staff AND students to raise the bar on their academic achievement. AL-Ghazaly School, Teaneck, N.J. won the NJ State Robotics Tournament that was held on Dec 11, 2004) in Mount Olive High School. AL FATIH ACADEMY, HERNDON, VA. were not satisfied with just talking about helping the homeless. Al Fatih Academy students sponsored a
Help the Homeless Mini Walk during the month of Ramadan as part of the school's Kids Giving Salaam Campaign

Arizona Cultural Academy (ACA), Phoenix, AZ Seven ACA students won prizes for art work that they submitted to the Arizona State Fair in October 2004. UNIVERSAL ACADEMY OF FLORIDA DOES IT AGAIN THIS YEAR! 7th GRADE STUDENT PLACES IN SCRIPPS HOWARD REGIONAL SPELLING BEE! If you remember last year Universal Academies Sana Hye stood first in the Florida Regionals and went on to the Nationals. This year, March 2004, one of the academies 7th graders, Aiyah Jandali, stood 2nd in the regionals. Universal Academy of Florida competed with 53 other public and private schools from 6 different counties and came in second and was the only Islamic school, not to mention she was the only Muslim child.

Al-NOOR SCHOOL, POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. PARTICIPATES IN CULTURAL FESTIVAL. On September 7, 2003 Al-Noor Islamic School, located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the Dutchess Interfaith Council and the Dutchess County Arts Council sponsored the Salaam-Shalom Family Culture Fest at the Poughkeepsie's Vassar Temple. Workshops and programs ran simultaneously throughout the free event. The event provided an opportunity to facilitate a ". . .celebration of the unique beauty found in the arts of all cultures and will promote peace, understanding and harmony among diverse populations of all faiths." CRESCENT ACADEMY, LOCATED IN CANTON, MICHIGAN IS DOING MORE THAN DRAWING JUST STUDENTS TO THEIR SCHOOL. Many Muslim families have moved to Canton to be closer to the school (Click here for the story.)

Al AMAL SCHOOL, FRIEDLY, MINNESOTA GRADUATE THEIR FIRST 12TH GRADE CLASS! Al-Amal's first high school senior class of three students will graduate this month. Pioneer Press, Minnesota's first newspaper covered the story in their Saturday, May 31, 2003 edition. (Click here for the story.)

AL FATIH ACADEMY, HERNDON, VA CONNECT WITH IRAQI ORPHANS! The students at Al Fatih Academy prepared and sent relief kits and hand made cards to Iraqi orphans. MUSLIM COMMUNITY SCHOOL IN POTOMAC, MD PARTICIPATES IN C-SPAN/COMCAST EDUCATION PROGRAM. C-SPAN and Comcast partner to link 40 Washington, D.C. area schools with leaders from the Administration, Congress, federal courts, and federal agencies. SOUTH AFRICAN NASHEED ARTIST, ZAIN BHIKHA, VISITED ISLAMIC SCHOOLS IN 3 U.S. CITIES. In conjunction with his Our World U.S.A. Tour to Help Raise Funds for Needy Iraqi Families and Protecting the Civil Rights of American Muslims, Mr. Bhikha visited 9 Islamic schools in the Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Detroit areas. These were the Award for Best Design for Sustainability from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the Award for Excellence in Systems Integration from the Institute of Industrial Engineers. FRIDLEY, MINNESOTA'S AL-AMAL SCHOOL WINS STATE TOURNAMENT
Al-Amal School was the only school from Fridley, Minnesota to participate in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) state trounament on Saturday, January 25, 2003 held at Benilde-St. Margaret's School, St. Louis Park. The School's team called "City Surfers" came in 3rd in the Minnesota State Finals. (Click here for more information.)

FRIDLEY, MINNESOTA'S AL-AMAL SCHOOL WINS REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
FIRST LEGO League is an international program for children ages 9-14 that combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere. Teams consist of up to 10 players with the focus on team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking. (Click here for more information.)

TAMPA, FLORIDA'S UNIVERSAL ACADEMY OF FLORIDA ANNOUNCES SCRIPPS HOWARD REGIONAL WINNER
On Satuday, March 1, 2003 Sana Hye, who is an 8th grade student at the Universal Academy of Florida, won 1st place in the Scripps Howard Regional spelling bee contest. Sana's success will allow her to make the all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in late May to compete in the National Spelling Bee.
