Reading

Consider the word read in all its shades of meaning. Then add to it the Arabic word iqra'. What concepts do these two words share? What can we learn from them both?

P o n d e r -- do we encourage students to ponder, and provide them time to do so?

                   C o m p r e h e n d -- how do we show students we value this?

                                          D e l i b e r a t e -- do we promote deliberating ideas?

                                                                  T h i n k -- do we teach students to think? How?

                                                                                             R e c i t e -- too many ask only this.
